There's a shop launch happening tonight between 6 and 9 in Coburg House Art Studios where you can find my stuff as well as Javier photos and all the other goodies from the 80 artists in the building.

The Art & Design Library is a cornucopia of images and poetic text about the images; I reeeeeeelly like it - and so does Javier.
Our friend Mette is showing her work there just now, so if you can, go to the library to see her rare boxes - and then come back please, to see Javier's photographs and my work!

I couldn't get rid of these remnants of Christmas without drawing them.

I painted this two Septembers ago, but I wasn't happy with it until I chopped a whole field off it and Javier restretched it and framed it in beeswaxed walnut.
... I like it now!

Javier's been teaching me how to make cyanotypes, they're very interesting and painstaking to make - I hope we have a few sunny days left to have this summer ...

An unexpectedly hot day up at Bonaly in June, every tree seemed to have a liquid fire in it. I must have had my shirt sleeve rolled up because my arm was lobster-like for a week after, then went brown for two days and then peeled off ...

Javier Ternero's a photographer and framer based in Coburg Studios, and I have to divulge an interest: I live with him!

My father worked in Pitlochry during my teenage years, he used to take me on long walks in the hills up above Dunkeld and Pitlochry, this is the way I remember early summer in those hills.

Every hill seemed shifting in the sun and wind up at Bonaly, Spring is tipping over into early summer.

I walked last week up to a band of dark pine trees on a steep hill - it seems a gateway - to come out into aubergine and old banana moors.

The BBC weather said it wasn't going to rain until 2 ...
I stayed drawing after it started raining and all the countryside I was looking at changed into gray, pale gold and biscuit coloured.

I played in the brief Border forests until I was nine or ten; still remember the smell of resin and damp compost and the sound of crows cawing alarms.

Watercolour is for me, the attempt to sum up the feeling and elements in transparent overlapping forms.

A day when the light was so cold and clear that it seemed everything was more important - like seeing a page in black and white.

This was Christmas Eve in Andalusia.
It was more beautiful than this, but I wanted to try and get down the dust and the mist and the waiting for the sun and Christmas.
